Project Description

Frankenmuth & Mackinac Island, Michigan

September 17 – 24

8 Day Tour

Mackinac Island & Bavarian area of Frankenmuth

Itinerary Details

While this tour focuses on two different and equally interesting areas of Michigan, the journey to and from is very different. Nearing the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, take the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry from Tobermory to South Baymouth prior to welcoming a step on guide aboard for a tour on Manitoulin Island, then settle into Sault Ste Marie for the evening. Cross the border in southern Ontario on the last day of our journey after two full days and three nights in “Little Bavaria”.

Mackinac Island is like a fairy tale island from out of the past, with its’ horse-drawn carriages, and lack of motorized vehicles. Made famous by the making of the movie called “Somewhere in Time” with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, the stately Grand Hotel surrounded by immaculate gardens and landscaping, sits over-looking the Straits of Mackinac, and the harbour activity. A narrated carriage tour of the island and lunch at the Grand Hotel are highlights of your stay and the graciously appointed Lake View is your home for two nights.

Frankenmuth is the Bavarian area in Michigan and mirrors so many aspects of the Bavarian area in Germany. In 1810, the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria Germany, & Princess Theresa, commenced a tradition of celebration – the Munich Oktoberfest, and has since become the largest public festival in the world. What has this to do with Frankenmuth Michigan? With the unique German Heritage and culture in Frankenmuth, their Oktoberfest strives to preserve the sights and sounds of the Munich Oktoberfest with entertainment from Germany, food, dancing, Oktoberfest souvenirs, and authentic Oktoberfest German-brewed beer. You will have passes to the festival activities over part of two days as well as time to explore history rich Frankenmuth.

You will also be given the opportunity to visit Bronner’s Christmas Store, the largest in the world, and the Prime Outlets at Birch Run, just outside of Frankenmuth.
